A minor
Having good writing skills is more than a luxury – it’s a necessity in today’s world. Whether you are composing a cover letter, a blog, a white paper, or a poem, you will find that perfecting the craft of written communication is vital to professional success and personal creative fulfillment.
We are bombarded with the equivalent of the content of 174 newspapers each day, according to a 2011 study by the University of California. And that conclusion was based on information from 2007. To get someone’s attention, your writing must really stand out.
Pursuing a minor in Professional and Creative Writing will help you develop skills in a variety of settings designed to provide a full exploration of genres. Options range from feature writing for magazines and the Web to newspaper journalism and creative writing in poetry and fiction.
Future careers, post-grad opportunities
A minor in Professional and Creative Writing will enable you to develop research, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills, which are in demand in all professions. You will also be well prepared to pursue graduate studies in a number of fields.
Requirements
For a 12-credit minor:

Four (4) courses. At least one (1) offered by the Department of Communication, and at least one (1) in creative writing offered by the Department of English and Cultural Studies |
