Anthony DeAngelis '06 of East Greenwich, R.I., Michael Hajjar '08
of Cohasset, Mass., Joseph D'Ambrose '08 of Middletown, Conn., and
Matthew Kelleher '08 of Glastonbury, Conn., are the founders of
Expedient Laundry - a door-to-door laundry service for Bryant
students.
The four young men were randomly assigned to the same team in
their Business 101 class to work on a project together. The
assignment was to create a business for on or off campus and pretend
to run it. D'Ambrose and Kelleher both shared the frustration of
trying to do laundry on campus -- the number of students waiting in
line outnumbered the available washers and dryers. Knowing that
other students felt the same way inspired the laundry service idea.
DeAngelis, Hajjar, D'Ambrose, and Kelleher earned an 'A' on their
project, but they weren't ready to let go of the idea. "We realized
that a laundry service at Bryant might actually work," said
DeAngelis.
From that point, the students embarked on a year-long odyssey,
working with Tom Eakin, vice president for student affairs and dean
of students, to set up a company in accordance with local and state
laws. They found a commercial laundry service, Lou's Laundry in
Warwick, owned by Louis E. DeCiantis, and set up an account there.
Expedient Laundry focuses on high-value and customer service. The
business now has several dozen customers and is looking to expand to
nearby Providence College.
The success of the business, and the entrepreneurial drive of the
four students, was profiled on the cover of the Money & Business
section of The Providence Sunday Journal on March 12. Read
