Dr. Asli Ascioglu
Assistant Professor
Finance
Ascioglu received her Ph.D. in finance from the
University of Memphis in 2000. She holds her M.S. in Finance from
Texas Tech University and a B.S. in management from the Middle East
Technical University in Turkey. Her academic emphasis is on market
microstructure, corporate finance, and international markets. She is
a member of the Financial Management Association and received the
Nasdaq Dissertation Fellowship in 1999. Ascioglu served as the C.V.
Starr Financial Markets Center coordinator in 2003 when the facility
was completed. She was instrumental in the integration of the
facility into the finance curriculum.
Dr. Brian Blais
Assistant Professor
Science and Technology
Blais received a Ph.D. in physics from Brown University
in 1998 and holds a Sc.M. in physics from the Universitat
Heidelberg. He received a B.A. with honors in physics from Wesleyan
University in 1992. Blais teaches courses in introductory physics,
astronomy, meteorology, machine learning, artificial intelligence,
and robotics. His research focus is on how the brain works,
exploring computational and mathematical models of small numbers of
brain cells. He has also created laboratory manuals on experimental
science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. In 2005, he
received an award for exemplary faculty service and is an active
member of the curriculum committee.
Dr. Ranjan Karri
Assistant Professor
Management
Karri earned his Ph.D. from Washington State University
in 2001, and holds MBAs from Cleveland State University and the
Institute of Rural Management. He received a B.S. in Mathematics from
Osmania University. Prior to joining Bryant, he worked as an
executive of business development for the largest management
consulting organization for rural enterprises in India. Karri
teaches a capstone course on strategic management and management of
innovation and technology. His research interests lie in the
intersection of strategy, business ethics, and entrepreneurship. He
received a merit award for teaching in 2002. He currently serves on
the editorial board of Group and Organization Management
journal.
Dr. Paul Lokken
Assistant Professor
History
Lokken received a Ph.D. in history from the University
of Florida in 2000. He holds a masters in history and a B.A. with
honors in history from the University of Saskatchewan. His teaching
focuses on Latin American history, introductory U.S. history, and
historical methods, and has served as coordinator of the Latin
American and Latina/Latino Studies Minor since 2002. His current
research focuses on West Central Africans and issues of migration,
demography, and identity in colonial Central America. Recent
publications have examined militiamen of color, slave marriage, and
maroons in colonial Guatemala and El Salvador. Lokken received a
faculty merit award in 2002 and 2004.
Dr. Janet Prichard
Assistant Professor
Computer Information Systems
Prichard received her Ph.D. in computer science in 1995
from the University of Rhode Island, where she also received her
M.S. in computer science. She has her B.A. in mathematics from
Providence College. Her academic interests are in real-time
databases, database query languages, object-oriented analysis and
design methodologies, database standards, client models, and
Internet security. Her instruction focuses on Web design and
development, object-oriented computing, operating systems, and data
structures. Prichard is a member of the X3H2 Technical Committee on
Database Standardization. She received a 1998 Microsoft
Instructional Development Grant.
Dr. Michael A. Roberto
Associate Professor, Trustee Professor
Management
Roberto received an A.B. with honors from Harvard
College in 1991, and an M.B.A. with High Distinction from Harvard
Business School in 1995, graduating as a George F. Baker Scholar. He
also received his D.B.A. from the Harvard Business School in 2000.
While teaching in the General Management unit at the Harvard
Business School, he twice won the Allyn Young Prize for Teaching in
Economics. Roberto has also taught in the leadership development
programs at Morgan Stanley, The Home Depot, Mars, Novartis, The
World Bank, and Thales, and has consulted with organizations such as
Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Corporate Executive Board,
and The Advisory Board.
Dr. Christopher Roethlein
Assistant Professor
Management
Roethlein received a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode
Island in 2000. He holds an M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Western New
England College. His teaching focuses on aspects of operations
management, production and inventory management, and high
performance manufacturing. In 2003, he served as chair of the
Faculty Development committee, received a Bryant merit award, and
was elected to the Xi Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. He currently
acts as the advisor to Boundless Playgrounds, a student-faculty
fundraising and planning collaboration to build a playground that
welcomes children of all physical and intellectual abilities. In
addition, he is a member of the Board of Examiners for the Rhode
Island Annual Quality Award.
Dr. Elizabeth Walden
Assistant Professor
English and Cultural Studies
Walden received her Ph.D. in comparative literature in
1999 from the University of Minnesota. She holds a masters in
philosophy from the University of Virginia and received her B.A. in
philosophy from Hamline University. Walden's teaching focuses on the
philosophy of art, ethics, cultural studies, film and video, visual
culture, humanities, and philosophy. She is currently developing a
book proposal that joins recent debates in film theory and
philosophy regarding the relationship between media arts and
subjectivity. She helped secure curriculum development grants
including the Davis Technology Grant in 2001 and instructional
grants in 2002 and 2005. Bryant gave her a merit award in 2002 and
2004.
