MEDIA ADVISORY: Major gift to Institute for Public Leadership will be announced at conference

SMITHFIELD, R.I.  – Approximately 150 public sector leaders from Rhode Island’s cities and towns have registered to attend “Public Leadership: Governing and the Art of the Possible,” the inaugural public leadership conference sponsored by Bryant University’s Institute for Public Leadership.

During his opening remarks, Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley will announce a major gift to the Institute.

The schedule:

8:45 a.m.: Welcoming remarks and announcement, Gary Sasse, founding director of Bryant Institute for Public Leadership, and President Machtley

9:15 a.m.-10:30 a.m.: Hands-on leadership exercise led by Bryant University’s Michael A. Roberto, Trustee Professor of Management, and Professor Jim Segovis, executive-in-residence. Working with two case studies, participants will offer recommendations on how they can lead to make a difference.

10:45-noon:  “Learning from Crucible Experiences” – a panel discussion on crisis management and transformational leadership experiences. Panelists are Providence Mayor Angel Taveres, Providence on the Brink; Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, The Flood; R.I. General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, The Pension Crisis. Moderator: Lori Coakley, associate professor of management at Bryant University

Noon-1 p.m.: Remarks by President Machtley and guest
