In recommending Douglas S. Krupp for admission to Bryant, former governor and then-U.S. Senator John O. Pastore wrote about the importance of everyone having the opportunity to learn. It’s a phrase Mr. Krupp has never forgotten.

Bryant did provide him with the opportunity to learn. Mr. Krupp applied himself and came to value the chance Bryant gave him to expand his mind. The experience prepared him for what he calls the kind of learning that comes only from working for a living.

Harnessing diligence, determination, and drive, Douglas Krupp, along with his brother, George, established The Krupp Companies in 1969, the year Douglas graduated from Bryant. That organization grew to become The Berkshire Group, an integrated real estate and financial services firm engaged in real estate acquisition, property management, investment sponsorship, mortgage banking, financial management, and ownership of three operating companies through private equity investments. Douglas Krupp serves as Senior Partner and Co-Founder.

With his wife, Judith, Mr. Krupp is devoted to to a wide range of community and philanthropic causes, including the Anti-Defamation League Foundation, the National Holocaust Museum, The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, The Lenny Zakim Fund Combined Jewish Philanthropies, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Through the years, he has also generously served his alma mater. He was a member of the Bryant Board of Trustees from 1991 to 2001, returning to serve on the Board in 2008. He continues to serve as a Trustee today.

Opened in September 2002, the Douglas and Judith Krupp Library was created through the couple’s generous gift to The Campaign for Bryant . Bryant students benefit every day from Mr. and Mrs. Krupp’s enduring belief in libraries and scholarships.

Though Mr. Krupp was able to pay for his college education by working every summer, he recognizes that many families are challenged to afford the cost of private higher education today. He and Mrs. Krupp established the Douglas and Judith Krupp Endowed Scholarship at Bryant, embracing the late Senator Pastore’s words about the importance of everyone having the opportunity to learn that made an indelible impression upon Mr. Krupp as a young man.
