Robert Mead came to Bryant’s campus on the East Side of Providence as a transfer student from what was then Rhode Island Junior College. A commuter, he worked throughout his college years. He completed his studies in December 1972, and graduated with a degree in Economics with a math minor, and a sense that he wanted to be in the finance end of business.

In March 1973, Mead joined Grinnell Fire Protection in Providence as a budget analyst. Throughout acquisitions, divestitures, expansions, and mergers, he essentially worked for one company throughout his career. By the time Mead retired in 2005 as president of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, the $100 million company he first went to work for had grown to be a $6 billion division of a $40 billion global corporation.

Bryant taught Mead how to learn, grasp concepts, analyze information, and devise solutions - skills that served him well throughout his career. In addition to the skills he acquired, students today must develop a global perspective that Mead gained on the job, as his manufacturing company expanded, and through a stint handling operations in the Pacific Region while working in Australia.

A member of Bryant’s Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2010, Mead is proud of what Bryant has become, and how it has expanded and grown into a University that continues to attract high-caliber students and helps them develop a global perspective through signature programs such as the Sophomore International Experience and International Business.

Over the years, Mead and his wife, Jane, have also been generous philanthropic supporters of the University through the Bryant Fund, Sophomore International Experience, the Trustee Scholarship Fund, and the President’s Cup Scholarship Fund.

Grateful for the foundation he received at Bryant, the couple view their philanthropic giving as an opportunity to help deserving students attain a transformative and empowering education.

Robert and Jane Mead, your continuing support and philanthropy have made it possible for Bryant University to help students create their paths, expand their world, and achieve their success.
