UConn executive will serve as Bryant's new VP for Student Affairs
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Dr. John Saddlemire, D.Ed., formerly the vice president for Student Affairs at the University of Connecticut, will become Bryant’s new vice president of Student Affairs and dean of students beginning Aug. 26.
"Dr. Saddlemire brings a broad knowledge of higher education leadership and management to this position, having served for 29 years in a variety of increasingly complex roles at public and private universities," Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley said. "He has an extensive track record for leadership development, student engagement, and team building, and is eager to share this experience and leadership with our community. He has served on numerous national professional leadership and service organizations and is well known in his field for his personal leadership in his very successful student life career."

Dr. Saddlemire previously was dean of students at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Before coming to UConn, he was vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students at Heidelberg University in Ohio. He has also worked at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania, at The Pennsylvania State University, and at University of Hartford.
His administrative experience is complemented by more than 25 years of continuous teaching experience. He is the author of numerous publications and has made many presentations in his field. During his career he established numerous academic partnerships to enhance the experience and retention rates of students.
He holds a Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Science in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University.
Dr. Saddlemire succeeds Dr. Tom Eakin, who is retiring after 16 years of service to Bryant. "Tom Eakin has been a stalwart leader of Bryant’s exceptional student life," Machtley said. "Partnering with colleagues in academic affairs and other departments, he has successfully overseen the evolution of unique programs that integrate student life with academic initiatives -- forging the distinctive Bryant Experience that sets us apart from our peers. Tom and his wife, Marj, have created a wonderful legacy in our community, and we will always remain grateful for their leadership and friendship."
The committee that led the national search for Dr. Eakin's successor was co-chaired by Linda Lulli, associate vice president for Human Resources, and Chuck LoCurto, vice president for Information Services and CIO.
