Bachelor of Science in Data Science launches this fall at Bryant University
In response to the growing demand for data scientists, Bryant University this fall will launch a Bachelor of Science in Data Science (B.S.D.S) – a program that will prepare students to become highly skilled analysts. For students interested in this program, the application deadline has been extended to April 15.
According to a December 2016 McKinsey Global Institute Report, demand for data scientists is outpacing supply: “Across the board, companies report that finding the right talent is the biggest hurdle they face in trying to integrate data and analytics into their existing operations. In a recent McKinsey & Company survey, approximately half of executives across geographies and industries reported greater difficulty recruiting analytical talent than filling any other kind of role.”
Behind every Netflix and Amazon recommendation, there's a data scientist, and data analysis, data mining, and data modeling are among the top five most valuable career skills, according to a study conducted by Time.com/Money and PayScale.com. The estimated starting salary range for data science professionals is $65,000 to $85,000, and they can be found working at Google, CVS, Amazon, and in law enforcement.

The program integrates statistics, applied analytics, information technology, machine learning, and big data processing to provide an interdisciplinary learning experience that simulates the real-world. In addition to core courses in data science, students will be able to take courses in artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and coding. Students will also learn critical communication, finance, and management skills that will enable them to effectively solve problems and advance in their organizations.
Experiential learning, credentials for advancement
Experiential learning is a hallmark of a Bryant education, and students will receive guidance from faculty and the Amica Center for Career Education to find appropriate internships and co-op programs that will help them in their academic and career pursuits. Students will also complete a capstone project where they are immersed in developing real-world solutions for a regional company.
In addition to a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, students will earn a SAS/Bryant Certificate in analytics, the industry standard for data mining and analytics software. They will also receive preparation for Teradata, Hadoop, and Tableau certifications. With these skills, experiences, and credentials, graduates will be sought-after by employers and ready to achieve success.
