Opening Convocation welcomes one of largest classes in Bryant history

Glenn M. Sulmasy, J.D., LL.M., Bryant University’s first provost, welcomed the 921 members of Class of 2019 – one of the largest entering classes in Bryant history – at Convocation on Sept. 9. An additional 140 transfer students are expected to matriculate this academic year.

Bryant President Ronald K. Machtley presented the keynote address, focusing on the coming year and the values, goals, and aspirations shared by the Bryant community.

Highlights of the Class of 2019

- 921 students, the largest entering class since 2008

- 23 states and 25 countries (top five countries: India, Turkey, China, Ghana, Ecuador)

- 10 percent international students

- Nearly 1,200 average SAT scores

- 3.46 average GPA; top 25 percent class rank

- 66 percent took AP courses

A total of 6,702 students applied to Bryant for admission this fall, one of the University’s largest applicant pools. Nearly half of the applicants applied Early Action or Early Decision. The Class of 2019 includes 695 business majors, 145 liberal arts majors, and 83 students who are undecided about their course of study.
