AAAC conference showcases broad range of business analytics

As an emerging leader in the arena of advanced applied analytics, Bryant University attracts thought leaders in the field to campus to share their expertise.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Advanced Applied Analytics Center’s annual Spring Symposium on Business Analytics will feature presentations by:

  • Mark Wolff, Ph.D., Principal Industry Consultant, Health & Life Sciences Global Practice, SAS Institute: "Analysis of Self-Reported Health Outcomes Data from Web-Based Media Sources"
  • Dave Schrader, Ph.D., Retired Marketing Director at Teradata Corporation: "Applied Analytics for Business"
    Ren Cheng, Senior Research Advisor, Fidelity Management & Research Company: "Understanding Systemic Risk"
  • Jon Casciari, Vice President in the Analytic Consulting Group, Epsilon Corporation: "Introduction to Real Time Offers"

The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the George E. Bello Center for Information and Technology. The premier sponsor of the conference is SAS. Additional sponsors include Mohegan Sun and Epsilon. (Download a copy of the agenda.)

Applied analytics at Bryant

The McKinsey Global Institute has said, “There will be a shortage of talent necessary for organizations to take advantage of big data. By 2018, the United States alone could face a shortage of 40,000 to 90,000 people with deep analytical skills, as well as 1.5 million managers and analysts with know-how to use the analysis of big data to make effective decisions.

In response to the demand for graduates with analytical skills, Bryant University, with major financial support from SAS:

  • Launched an Applied Analytics concentration in 2013. A capstone experience matches students with external organizations and/or individuals to develop real-world applications in their primary area of study. Bryant is one of the few universities to offer an applied analytics concentration at the undergraduate level.
  • Established the AAAC, which brings together students, faculty, practitioners, and organizations from all disciplines for the study and application of analytical and visualization techniques to gain insights from “big data.”
  • Created a graduate certificate program in business analytics through the Graduate School of Business. Students who complete the program receive a joint certificate in data analytics from Bryant and SAS, the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence marketplace.
