What's behind the candidates' courting of female voters?
Prof. Richard Holtzman is among the political analysts quoted in the Providence Journal regarding why the Cicilline and Doherty campaigns are courting the female vote.
He noted that recent polls showing President Obama holding a 15-percent or more lead among female voters over GOP rival Mitt Romney are "probably a factor for Cicilline." “Cicilline’s campaign certainly recognizes the opportunity to tap into this section of electorate and ride Obama’s coattails,” Holtzman told the Journal. “And now that Cicilline has made this a campaign issue, Doherty can’t ignore it. If he does, he risks being swept up by the issue and paying the price for Romney’s current lack of support among women.”
