Cracking the big league
The "dramatic rise" of Bryant University men's basketball -- a "Cinderella team that's the most improved in the country" -- has energized the campus like never before, the Providence Journal reports in a front-page story Feb. 28.
It’s the type of excitement that President Ronald K. Machtley "envisioned when he supported a decision in 2007 to elevate the athletics program to Division I, the highest level possible," the paper reported, adding that "any mention of Bryant in the local and national press tells Machtley he made the right move."
The path to this year's phenomenal season includes a four-year record of 20-99. "That the Bulldogs are challenging for a league championship is nothing short of a basketball miracle," the Journal says.
