Interfaith Prayer Breakfast rescheduled for Feb. 6

 UPDATED Feb. 4 – Predictions for inclement weather on Wednesday, Feb. 5, have forced the postponement of Bryant University's 18th Annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast. The new date will be Thursday, Feb. 6.


Rabbi LevinSMITHFIELD, R.I. – President of the Rhode Island State Board of Rabbis Amy Levin of Temple Torat Yisrael of East Greenwich, who was named Rhode Island State Council of Churches’ Faith Leader of 2013, will be the keynote speaker at Bryant University’s 18 th Annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 6, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Stepan Grand Hall of the Bello Center for Information and Technology on the Bryant campus, 1150 Douglas Pike. The breakfast has been postponed from its original date, Wednesday, Feb. 5, due to the weather forecast.

The Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, patterned after the annual National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C., is designed to give attendees an inspirational hour of music, prayer, and a spiritual message. The Bryant Singers will perform.

Rabbi Levin grew up in New Jersey and worked as the education director of a collaborative Hebrew High School program for three Conservative congregations there before making Aliyah (moving to Israel) in 1981. The second woman to be ordained by the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, the rabbinic seminary of the Israeli Masorti (Conservative) Movement, Rabbi Levin was a congregational rabbi in Jerusalem. She has served Temple Torat Yisrael of East Greenwich since the summer of 2004. From 2008 through 2012, she was a mentor for senior rabbinical students who are fellows of the Legacy Heritage Rabbinic Fellows Program at The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.

Rabbi Levin is also a member of the Rabbinical Assembly’s Committee on Jewish Law and Standards, the body that issues Jewish legal opinions for the synagogues, organizations, and adherents of Conservative Judaism.

Rabbi Levin will speak about “strengthening society with the values of our faith. “
