Commencement Day "selfie" advisory draws international attention
In the interest of decorum and to keep Commencement Day activities running on time, Bryant has asked graduating seniors to hold off on snapping "selfies" as they process under the Archway and across the stage on May 17. The advisory, issued during the Commencement information sessions held Wednesday, April 16, has drawn attention from a number of media outlets, including:
- Today on NBC
- New York Times, "Go forth and conquer, but postpone the selfie"
- Associated Press, "Bryant U. cracks down on selfies at graduation"
- USA Today, "University bans selfies at graduation ceremony"
As the Times' story notes, the Class of 2014 will have "plenty of time for selfies" with President and Mrs. Machtley in events leading up to Commencement, and social media plays a key role on Bryant's Commencement Tagboard site.
