Student Profile: Brigit Clancy ’10

Bryant sophomore looks to new major to help her prepare for law school.

Brigit Clancy ’10 (Bloomfield, CT) is continuing a family tradition of sorts as her brother, Bret, is a 2007 Bryant graduate.

While it might not always be easy to follow in an older sibling’s footsteps, Brigit is quickly making a name for herself.

During her freshmen year, Clancy was the assistant variety editor for the Archway, a co-chair of Colleges Against Cancer, and a member of the Student Programming Board and Peer Education. During her sophomore year, she plans to join the Legal Studies Society and the Accounting Association while continuing to participate in the Leadership Program offered by Center for Student Involvement.

She intends to major in politics and law and concentrate in accounting with the ultimate goal of going to law school after graduation.

Clancy was initially attracted to Bryant because of its close proximity to Providence and Boston and the sense of community on campus.

“Bryant has a diverse and welcoming student body and faculty where you are a face with a name – not a number,” says Clancy.

In the classroom, she appreciates the enthusiasm of her professors. “Each professor at Bryant is here to assist you and to guide you with your best intentions in mind,” she says.

In addition to the expertise of Bryant’s professors and the academic advisors, the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) is integral to helping students excel in the classroom. “ACE is especially helpful because most of the tutors are students and they can relate to whatever concerns you may have,” she says.

Clancy has had the chance to challenge herself working on individual assignments and learn the best strategies for working with fellow students on group projects – important practice for the future.

“I am utilizing ideas that I have learned to become more socially responsible, independent, diplomatic, and flexible,” she says.

Her advice to incoming students: “Be open to different experiences that are beyond your comfort zone.” With more than 70 students organizations and countless cultural and leadership development opportunities, there is something for everyone, explains Clancy. “To be able to take advantage of everything that Bryant has to offer is invaluable.”

By getting involved in campus life, Clancy has made some great friends and forged close relationships with faculty that will ensure a memorable college career.

“The example set by my professors, upperclassmen, and peers, along with the workshops and speakers that Bryant sponsors, are an integral part of the Bryant experience. They help me develop as a person,” she says.
