It’s law school and the “Big Four” for Wilson sisters

Elicia Wilson ’08 is preparing for law school while her twin sister Gena ’08 will work for PwC.

Elicia ’08 and Gena Wilson ’08, twin sisters from Southbury, Conn., never thought they would go to college together.

“We didn’t want to go to school together at all,” says Elicia.

That was until they visited Bryant – the only school they looked at together. “We both walked on the campus and really liked it,” says Gena.

While their sister bond is now strong, they were not always as close. During their first year at Bryant, they lived in separate residence halls. At the end of their freshmen year, they joined Delta Zeta, and it sparked a common interest between them.

“Greek Life incorporates everything,” says Elicia, who finished her term as president of the Panhellenic Council, the governing body of the three sororities at Bryant, at the end of the fall semester “You get to work with the administration, and all the student organizations, and you get the community feel.”

Gena, president the Greek honor society Order of Omega, a member of the Senior Advisory Council, and the former president of the Delta Zeta sorority, says, “Getting involved in Greek Life gives you the chance to make a lot of changes, meet new people, and take advantage of opportunities that you otherwise would not have. It is not just an organization – it is an experience.”

Today, the sisters are closer than ever as they prepare for graduation day, which is less than four months away.

Elicia, a marketing concentrator with minors in communication and legal studies, is preparing for law school. After spending the summer studying, she took the LSAT during the fall semester. She applied to the New England School of Law, Boston University, Northeastern, and Suffolk.

“Bryant has given me a good business background to go into corporate law,” says Elicia. “Professors make you work hard, which prepares you for the real world.”

One day she would like to bring her experiences in business and law back to the classroom as a professor.

“We hear all these stories from our professors about their careers, and I think it would be great to teach about my own experiences,” says Elicia.

An accounting concentrator with a minor in psychology, Gena completed an internship last summer at PricewaterhouseCoopers and accepted an offer to work there after graduation. She plans to earn her Certified Public Accountant designation.

Gena’s courses in psychology and literary and cultural studies helped her to communicate effectively with PwC executives during her summer internship.

“I don’t think I would have gotten the job at PwC without Bryant,” says Gena. “The University is known for being a demanding school, so the fact that I have good grades and was involved helped me to get to where I am.”

The sisters encourage all students to challenge the norms and to strive to make change, an approach instilled by their father.

“This mindset allows you to change things to make them different and better,” says Gena

Says Elicia, “I have had some incredible professors that have encouraged me to look deeper than what is in front of you, which I appreciate more and more.”
