Bryant to honor top seniors with Commencement Awards
As part of the 146th undergraduate Commencement exercises on Saturday, Bryant will recognize 35 members of the Class of 2009.
Matt Buttaro ’09 (Walpole, MA) knew the first time he visited campus that Bryant was the place for him.
“The second I came to Bryant it felt right,” he says. “I knew this would be the place I could really develop as a person.”
He immediately immersed himself in the Bryant community by joining the Student Programming Board. He became treasurer by his junior year, the same year he was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society. This year, he served as the president of ODK and completed a one-year term as a member of the Center for Student Involvement’s (CSI) Leadership Council.
Through his involvement on campus, Buttaro gained a reputation as a strong and dependable leader in the Bryant community. He was nominated by a member of the Bryant community to receive the Roger W. Babson Award for distinguishing himself through character and sound judgment.
“I am truly honored to receive this award,” he says. “I would like to thank the Bryant students, faculty, and staff for their constant support and dedication in making Bryant a better place.”
Danielle Malatesta ’09 (Bow, NH) will receive the Bryant University Good Citizenship Award for bettering government both on and off campus. Malatesta recently completed a term as speaker of the council for the Student Senate and was a member of CSI’s Leadership Council with Buttaro.
“Bryant has taught me to work hard, face adversity, overcome obstacles, and achieve success,” says Malatesta. “No challenge is too big if your heart is in it.”
Elizett Pires ’09 (New Bedford, MA), distinguished herself on campus as a Resident Assistant, an Admission Ambassador, Orientation Leader, and tutor, among other activities, and will receive the George M. Parks Award. The annual honor is given to the senior who has done the most to enhance the reputation of the University through recognized leadership qualities.
