Bryant University’s Second Annual Research and Engagement Day (REDay) will be held on April 18, 2012. Faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as industry and community partners associated with Bryant are encouraged to showcase their research, creativity and/or innovative academic accomplishments within our Bryant community. We invite papers/programs that present scholarly research, creative products/presentations, and industry/community partner collaborations. We also encourage presentations that explore the academic value of international educational experiences, community service projects, internships, student organizations, and other teaching and learning outside of the classroom.
Timely submission is essential for program preparation. Deadline for receipt of all submissions was February 24, 2012.
Please send all questions about REDay to: REDay@bryant.edu.
Call For Proposals
Eligible presentations include research papers, poster presentations, special session proposals, and creative works. The Conference especially encourages submissions of research performed in collaboration between faculty and students. Research papers published within the last year are also eligible for submission. Multiple submissions are permissible.
Paper Presentations
Paper presentations should be prepared for an average 12-15 minute time span. Individual papers will be grouped by topic into paper sessions. Each paper session will include an introduction by a session facilitator, presentation of the papers and audience questions and reactions.
Roundtable Paper/Abstract Sessions
Roundtable discussions are typically focused around a specific theme in research, for example, sustainability. Papers/abstracts/research ideas will be presented (usually within 5-10 minutes per participant) in a small group around a table that allows for more direct discussion between the researcher and interested participants. Plans for collaborative research can be made.
Best Practices Sessions
An alternative to the traditional research format is the best practices sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to discuss the many topics that are needed to promote and encourage academic excellence at Bryant University. Some potential topics for faculty could include: sharing of best teaching practices, jumpstarting research efforts, methods for incorporating industry/community partners in your curriculum, quality of life issues, methods to encourage budding faculty on their path toward tenure and maximizing sabbaticals. Some potential topics for students could include: developing a good student research project, getting the most out of an internship or study abroad experience, effective studying habits, and selecting a faculty research mentor. Discussions will be presented in a small group around a table that allows for more direct interaction between the presenter and interested participants.
Full Panel Sessions
These sessions generally include 3-4 presenters who will talk for 15-20 minutes each on a panel related topic. Panel members can be grouped by conference coordinators or put together by conference attendees. Interdisciplinary sessions are encouraged.
Poster Sessions
Poster sessions will visually display a research study or a program/project. Participant(s) must construct a poster exhibit of high quality that can easily convey information as attendees stop by to receive a brief overview of the project. The poster session will combine the graphic display of materials with the opportunity for informal one-to-one interaction with the poster’s visitors. Participants will be expected to remain by their posters during the entire session to address each attendee’s questions and comments.
Showcases of Creative Expression
Participants may choose to display, perform, present creative works that have been developed individually or as part of a course. Works of visual art, public performances, and creative writing are welcome. Any of the above session options are available for this purpose, but presenters/organizers should feel free to submit ideas for alternative session formats.
Ideas and venues for other types of presentations are encouraged. Please do not limit your creativity to that posted in this Call for Papers. Please celebrate academic and creative excellence at Bryant University by sharing your successes and by learning from others.
