Human Resource ManagementA Concentration and Minor An organization's employees are its greatest asset. Managing human capital in organizations has grown in importance as most firms now recognize that human capital can be a source of competitive advantage in the global market place. As a result, the HRM function is now considered a key to delivering outstanding organizational performance and in this context well trained HRM professionals are in great demand. A career in HR would be defined as being a leader of all people issues in an organization and a strategic partner in negotiating contemporary challenges of globalization, increased diversity and new demands at the workplace. HR professionals are responsible for identifying staffing needs, recruiting and training the best employees or independent contractors to fill these needs, and maintaining high performance and job satisfaction within the workforce. They also make decisions on developing employee benefits and compensation programs, organizing employee records and personnel policies, and ensuring that employees are aware of these policies and regulations. The Human Resource Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree includes six courses of in-depth study in the field of HR, to complement the business and liberal arts core. The Human Resource Management minor requires four courses which offer an understanding of complex HR issues that corporations face today.
