Mass Communication

An Interest Area

In modern times, information is transmitted through more venues than ever before.  Content can be heard on the radio, watched on television and movie theaters, downloaded onto cell phones and iPods, or viewed on the Internet through websites, podcasts, streaming video, and blogs.

The Mass Communication interest area offers students an understanding of the exciting and always-changing effects, economics, structure, and products of the mass media. It also delves into the process of how to create that content.  By studying mass communication, students experience the entire life-cycle of becoming a mass media producer—from idea to financing to execution to distribution to measuring effectiveness. Students can take one or all of the courses in this interest area. These classes may be applied to your degree requirements or taken as electives.
