FIN620 — Equity Investments

This course explores the theory and practice of investments, covering topics such as stock valuation, security analyses, trading of securities, risk and return trade off, and benefits of diversification. The primary goal of this course is to make students informed investors by covering the theoretical aspects of investments as well as the practical side of it. The emphasis on the application of theory is important and will be achieved with the use of resources available at the Starr C.V. Financial Markets Center (FMC)

— Global Business Management

This course is designed to survey, analyze and appreciate the opportunities and challenges surrounding an international business environment. It focuses on the importance of cultural dynamics as well as legal, political, geographic, and environmental factors. Theories, information and research findings which are useful in understanding different aspects of managing multinational operations are discussed. It will provide a foundation for students interested in exploring career opportunities in international business.

This course addresses the major areas of wealth management including income tax planning, investment planning, retirement planning, insurance planning and estate/gift tax planning

— Mastering Management Skills

This course is designed to help students develop the “soft skills” that that are essential for career advancement. Using management theory as a foundation and current business practice as a reality check, the course focuses on critical skills related to communicating effectively, working in teams, managing projects, coping with stress, and leading organizational change.  The pedagogy for the course is based on a system of self assessment, learning analysis, practice, application, and reflection so each student will be able to focus on issues that are personally relevant for their particular career stage.

Legal Regulation of Business

In this course students will examine the relationship between law and business. The law impacts every aspect of the business world and through the use of a case study approach students will learn the parameters and extent of that relationship. The major areas of study will include: government regulatory jurisdiction, contract formation, performance and discharge, business entities, antitrust, agency, tort and property law (including intellectual property). Particular attention will be given to current events and issues students have faced in the business world. Students will learn to read and analyze legal cases and analyze fact patterns in order to develop a working knowledge of the applicability of laws and regulations in business. The ethical implications of decision-making will be studied as they arise.
