Bryant University. The Character of Success

Study Abroad

Program Overview

In order to participate in Bryant's semester or year-long study abroad programs, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good standing at the University. GPA requirements for summer study abroad vary and will be dependent on the program to which you apply. Please see the study abroad office for more information.

Once you've chosen a specific country and program partner, you must also meet deadlines for application and registration submission. Your study abroad coordinator and academic advisor will help guide you through this process.

Tuition and Fees

Study abroad participants are charged the same rates that a traditional Bryant University student would be assessed if they were studying on-campus, unless the total charge at the host institution exceeds the comparable charges at Bryant University. Any financial aid you receive is applied to all approved study abroad programs through Bryant, with the confirmation of full-time enrollment. Meal plans are typically not offered through host institutions. If a plan is offered, you will be billed through Bryant University.

Regular and supplemental health insurance is also required for every student. Additional fees will apply as defined by individual partner programs.

You are responsible for transportation and incidental costs. Please visit the Bursar's Office web site for more detailed information on study abroad billing and costs. All billing inquiries should be addressed to the Bursar's Office at (401) 232-6030.

Faculty-Led Programs

Bryant also offers short-term study abroad programs in conjunction with faculty-developed courses. In previous semesters, students enrolled in "Environmental Studies in China" traveled to China, and students in "Cultural Studies Abroad - London" traveled to England.  Click on the link above to see what Bryant faculty are currently offering for destinations abroad.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Sophomore International Experience (SIE) program.  The SIE is a special winter/summer session abroad led by Bryant University faculty and staff.  These students will earn three academic credits and spend 10 to 12 days overseas to learn about other cultures and how businesses operate globally.

Course Work and Credit

You will work with a Bryant Academic Advisor to have your courses pre-approved in order to receive transfer credit. Pre-approved classes can be applied towards major and minor courses, modes of thought, and open electives.

For each class at your Host Institution, you must earn a "C" grade or better for transfer credit to be awarded and added to your total credits earned at Bryant. Grades earned while abroad will appear on your Bryant transcript but will not affect your cumulative GPA.
