Preparing for Your First SemesterYou may be wondering - is there anything I need to do before I begin my first semester at Bryant? Planning ahead is essential to being successful as a college student and eases the transition during your first semester. You should complete the following steps during the summer before your first semester at Bryant. Step 1: Complete a Math Placement Exam (REQUIRED) The exam, along with a review of your high school record and SAT scores, will be used to determine the math course for your first semester. Step 2: Complete a Language Placement Exam Students planning to pursue the Bachelor of Science in International Business are required to complete a language minor & Global Studies majors must demonstrate language competency. Therefore, the language placement exam must be completed for those degrees/majors. This is not required for other majors. However, if you think you may want to study a foreign language you should also complete the language placement exam. Step 3: Attend Orientation At Orientation, advisors will assist you in putting together your first-semester schedule. Regardless of your intended major or even if you are undecided, you will begin taking courses in the liberal arts core, such as: ECO113 Microeconomics LCS121 Intro to Literary Studies or LCS151 Liberal Arts Seminar Math course (Please refer to Step 1 above) A full first-semester schedule consists of five courses (3 credits each) and the Foundations for Learning course (1 credit). Here are some sample schedules. ___________________________________________________________________________ **If you are NOT attending Orientation, you MUST complete the First Year Course Selection form below, so that we can finalize your first semester schedule** You can view the course descriptions here to assist with your course selection.
