Bryant University. The Character of Success

Preparing for Your First Semester

As a transfer student, you are probably aware of the way things work at a University.  However, there are certain steps that you need to take prior to starting your first semester at Bryant, to make for a seamless transition to the University.

Step 1: Schedule a Meeting with an Academic Advisor

After you are admitted to Bryant, you will have a scheduled appointment with an Academic Advisor in the Undergraduate Advising Office.  During the meeting your academic advisor will:

  • Review the services of the Undergraduate Advising Office
  • Discuss where your transfer credits will be applied within your degree program
  • Assist you in enrolling in courses for your first semester

This is also a time when you can ask questions that you have about your degree program.

Step 2: Complete a Math Placement Exam (REQUIRED)

The exam, along with a review of your high school record and SAT scores, will be used to determine your math course for your first semester.

During your first advising meeting, you may be placed in a Math course, but you are still required to take the Math placement exam.  Directions for taking the placement exam will be provided at this first meeting.

If a change needs to be made to your schedule after you take the exam, you should contact the academic advisor to make the change.

Step 3: Complete a Language Placement Exam

Students planning to pursue the Bachelor of Science in International Business are required to complete a language minor. This is not required for other majors. However, if you think you may want to study a foreign language you should also complete the language placement exam. Directions will be provided at your first meeting with an academic advisor.

Step 4: Attend Orientation

A transfer student orientation is provided the day before classes begin for the semester.  This is an opportunity for you to meet Bryant faculty and staff.  An academic advisor will also be there to answer any questions you have regarding course planning.
