COURSE RESERVES
Guidelines | Electronic Reserves | Tips | Copyright | Search by Professor
The Access Services Department processes all course reserve materials. Students can access electronic reserves at any time either on campus or off campus. Electronic reserve items are accessible by the professor's last name via the HELIN library catalog. Print copies of all course reserve materials are available on site in the library as well.
-
Only required materials should be on reserve; material that has never circulated should be reviewed and removed.
-
Please write your name and course number on all photocopies and personal copies of books.
-
Materials from other institutions cannot be placed on reserve.
-
Audio-Visual materials may be placed on reserve.
-
All loose answer key chapters will be inserted into a black binder to be provided by the library. The notebook will be barcoded and subsequent chapters will be added to that notebook. Individual chapters from answer keys will not be barcoded.
-
If answer keys are to be used only by your classes, please provide a class list with your material.
-
A 24-hour notice is required for all materials to be added to the reserve database. Please allow one week for processing at the beginning of a semester.
-
Loan periods designated for reserve items are: 2 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, and 7 days and are assigned by the professor.
-
Copyright law compliance will be strictly followed; we cannot scan or copy entire texts.
-
Space limitations require us to eliminate the storage of outdated reserve material. Your cooperation is appreciated.
A complete listing of all reserve material and access to electronic reserves are available via the library catalog at http://helin.uri.edu/search/p. If you have a web page, this will also be linked to your reserve course list. If your reserve list is not linked to your web page or if you see an error please contact us.
What are Electronic Reserves? This system is an online service which employs image scanning technology to provide electronic document delivery for select reserve readings. This service allows students (both on and off campus) to search, view, print and download course materials online. Students will be required to input their name and barcode; user authentication ensures adherence to copyright compliance.
What can be placed on Electronic Reserves? Currently, any single sided article less than 30 pages in length will be scanned and converted into .pdf format; if available in full text via Proquest or Ebsco, we will link articles greater than 30 pages in length. Sample exams and pages from solutions manuals will not be scanned. Due to additional processing procedures required for Electronic Reserves, please allow for a one week turnaround time at the beginning of each semester. Electronic formats now available for electronic reserves include: pdf, jpg, gif, tiff, doc, wav, mp3, avi, mov, mpeg, ppt, html files and urls.
What happens if the server is down? The integrity of the traditional hard copy Reserve Collection will remain intact; a hard copy of each electronically formatted reserve item will be available at the Circulation Desk in the event of online inaccessibility. The electronic format enhances but will never replace the availability of the library's Reserve Collection.
The accessibility of electronic reserves extends to both on-campus and off-campus sites. Adobe Acrobat Reader must be loaded on the hard drive; the printer needs a minimum of 2MB of memory.
Your browser must be 4.0 or higher. Your Bryant ID must be registered with the Access Services Department. Replacement IDs will alter your existing barcode and must therefore be updated in your patron record. Note: only listings designated as "ECA" (Electronic Copy Available) are online. If the text prints out too small, reset your printing option "Page Scaling = None"
