Jacobs Drive

Jacobs Drive Plaque on Rock at Bryant's entry control stationJacobs Drive is the main road leading onto the Bryant campus from Route 7, Smithfield, Rhode Island and is named after the Jacobs Family. Harry L. Jacobs was Bryant's first president and his son E. Gardner Jacobs was Bryant's second president.

The plaque (currently in storage) reads:

1928 Rolls Royce driving on Jacobs Drive on September 10, 1974 "JACOBS DRIVE, symbolizing the progress of Bryant College from an illustrious past under outstanding leadership to a future filled with promise"

Jacobs Drive was dedicated September 10, 1974. In his dedication address, E. Gardner Jacobs, Bryant College Chancellor and President Emeritus at the time stated, "May this roadway, this beautiful entrance, this Jacobs Drive, continue to be the pathway to a brighter future for all those who seek "education for business leadership."

Dr. and Mrs. E. Gardner Jacobs arrived at the dedication site in an open touring car - a 1928 Rolls Royce of "Great Gatsby" fame. E. Gardner Jacobs is the person waving in the back seat. Bryant president at the time, Harry Evarts is seated in the front passenger seat.
