2009 STARTALK Student Program
 
U.S.-China Institute and Confucius Institute at Bryant University is again offering STARTALK Chinese Language and Culture Summer Program to middle school, high school students, and for the first time, to college students in the summer of 2009.
DATES: Monday, July 6 through Saturday, July 18, 2009
LOCATION: Bryant University campus
FEE: $150, including $50 textbook fee and $100 deposit. The $100 deposit will be returned to participants who have satisfactory attendance and a passing grade after completion of the program. The fee is required upon acceptance of the program.

MAJOR FEATURES

Student-centered small class instruction to accommodate multiple levels of Chinese proficiency and different learning styles.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Intensive Chinese language classes at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels in the mornings: taught by Chinese language professors from China and teachers from K-12 schools, including interactive activities such as role playing, group activities, and games.

Theme-based curriculum, “Family, Nature, and Arts” for the beginning level and “U.S.-China Relations after 30 years” for the intermediate and advanced levels.

Cultural workshops and activities in the afternoons, including martial arts, calligraphy, table tennis, dumpling making, Chinese movies, and more.

Weekend field trip: Arnold Arboretum, Chinatown in Boston, and Kim Man Market in Quincy, MA.
OPTIONAL STUDY TRIP TO CHINA
High school and college participants will have the opportunity to travel to China for two weeks. For more information, please visit 2009 Study Trip to China. The trip information session has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 21st.
APPLICATION
The program is full now. Applicants will be notified by late May. Seats are limited. Priority will be given to applicants with strong academic record and early applications.
