The Festival is a collaboration between the U.S.-China Institute and Confucius Institute at Bryant University and the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF).

This documentary uses the changes of the four seasons and natural scenes from around the year as metaphors to portray different periods in China’s development and important governmental strategies since China launched the economic reform and opening up policy in 1978.

  • One Thousand Years of Shaolin Temple    千年少林

Situated on Songshan Mountain, Henan Province, Shaolin Temple has a long history of over 1,500 years.  It is not only an ancestral temple of the Dhyana sect of Buddhism, but also known worldwide for its introversive and powerful martial arts.    

  •     Young and Restless in China

The documentary follows nine young individuals throughout four years of living and working in China. These young Chinese are ambitious and eager to find out what opportunities China can give them. However, they are often torn between what their families expect of them and their own aspirations. These are stories of ambition, excitement, and confusion connected with moments of love, misfortune and passion.It shows another sideof Chinese life rarely seen in the West, in a country that is changing daily.
