First Year Tips
Starting college, moving into a new area and being away from home sometimes for the first time, incoming students can expect to have an adjustment period. A few tips to help you through this time...
Have realistic expectations
It will take time to equal the strong friendships that you fostered throughout your life. Get out, meet people and get involved so that you can start the process of forming satisfying friendships.
Don't think you are the only one who is feeling uncomfortable
It is natural to experience feelings of homesickness, awkwardness, or sadness in a new place, especially if this is your first extended time away from home. Realize that there are many around you who are feeling much the same (although probably doing their utmost to appear otherwise).
Don't isolate yourself
Find others to eat with, form study groups and go to on-campus events. The interaction with other students could form long lasting friendships that will make your college experience unforgettable.
Get regular exercise
Research shows that regular exercise improves health, reduces stress and helps people better cope with stress or pressure.
