Command and Support Staff
Chief: George S. Coronado
Chief Coronado earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Prior to coming to Bryant University in 1991 he was employed with the University of Texas Police System and served as Chief of Police at Saint Mary's University (Texas) and at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He has also been the director of the Rhode Island Public Safety Training Academy since its inception in 1995.
Major John Rainone
Major Rainone has a degree in Architecture from Roger Williams University and has worked as a Smithfield Police Reserve Officer. He was formerly the third shift commander prior to being promoted to the Deputy Chief's position in 2003.Major Rainone began his employment at Bryant in 1993.
Virginia Bowry
Ms. Bowry has been with Bryant since July of 1986. Since October of 1987, she has served as Public Safety Assistant and Secretary
to the Director. She received an Associate's Degree in business from Johnson & Wales University. Ms. Bowry has also received a variety of training in crime and sexual assault prevention.
Peter McMichael
Peter McMichael worked as a full time DPS officer in 1989 and as a Reserve DPS Officer until 1999 when he took over as the Fire Marshall at Bryant. Mr. McMichael is a full time firefighter and a Lieutenant with the Providence Fire Department.
Lieutenant David Slocum
Lieutenant Slocum started with DPS in January of 1987. He is an eight year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and had formerly worked as a police officer with the Department of Defense Police. Lt. Slocum has been a certified EMT since 1988, and is the first shift commander.
Lieutenant Paul Deary
Lieutenant Deary started with DPS in September 2003 after serving more than twenty-four years with the U.S. Coast Guard. Lt. Deary is a certified EMT and had previously served as the third shift Sergeant. Since being promoted to Lieutenant, he has been assigned the duties of the second shift commander.
Lieutenant James Rapose
Lieutenant Rapose started with DPS in the December of 2003. Lt. Rapose had been a Safety and Security Officer at Johnson & Wales prior to coming to Bryant. He has an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, and became a certified EMT in 2004. He has worked on both second and third shift, and is now the third shift commander.
Sergeant Richard Hoover
Sergeant Hoover has worked in retail loss prevention as well as a fire fighter for the town of North Providence. He has been an EMT since 1979 and has also worked in armored car security. He started with DPS in October of 1988, and was formally a police officer with the Dean Junior College Police Department.
Sergeant Steve Freches
Sergeant Freches started with DPS in 2002. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. He is currently the assistant shift commander on the second shift. Sgt. Freches brings seventeen years of EMS experience and nineteen years of fire service experience to the department. Sergeant Freches also has previous supervisory experience in a university public safety department.
Sergeant Richard Hayden
Sergeant Hayden started with DPS in March of 2004. He is a retired on- call firefighter from the Valley Falls RI Fire Department. He is a certified EMT, and he has served on the third shift since arriving at Bryant. With his promotion to sergeant he has been assigned the duties of assistant shift commander of the third shift.
