Student Conduct Process

The process was created to be an educational process and follows the standards set out in the Student Handbook.

How does the process work?

  1. An Incident occurs where a policy violation is present.

  2. A Resident Assistant, Professional Staff member, or other University official creates a written account of what he/she witnessed. The is referred to as an Incident Report.

  3. The Incident Report is submitted to the supervisor of the staff member who documented the incident. A hearing officer is then identified for the incident.

  4. Students documented on the incident report will receive notice to attend a hearing with an administrator to review their conduct and discuss their involvement in the incident.

This meeting is the opportunity for the student to tell his/her account of the incident and talk about his/her role in it.

  5. Following this meeting, the hearing officer will make a decision of Responsible or Not Responsible.

This decision is based on all information available (incident reports, interviews, information presented from the accused students).

  6. If a student is found Not Responsible then he/she has been cleared of responsibility and the process would concludes for that student.

If a student is found Responsible for a violation of policy, then a sanction may be issued. All sanctions levied are at the discretion of the hearing officer, and are subjective to each individual student, their past disciplinary history, as well as behavior and attitude during the student conduct process. A list of suggested minimum sanctions is available for review in the Student Handbook.

  7. The decision of the hearing officer and any sanctions will be communicated in writing to the student.

Please Note: All official communication will happen through the student's Bryant mailbox, Bryant e-mail account, or student room phone. Students are responsible for checking each of these daily throughout the conduct process. Failure to retrieve messages and letters will not be deemed as grounds to extend the Residence Life conduct process.

 Appeals

Students may appeal a decision, and will be given the appeal procedures in their outcome letters.

All appeals must be submitted within 5 class days of the date listed on the outcome letter from the hearing officer.

Student appeals should meet the format and criteria listed in the Appeals section of the Student Handbook.
