Halls 1-17 Holiday Decoration Policies
As we enter the holiday season, the Office of Residence Life requests that you keep in mind the Fire Safety Rules and Regulations when placing holiday decorations in or around the Residence Halls and Townhouses. While we encourage you to celebrate the season, please celebrate it safely.
The following guidelines have been established to help provide continued safety for all campus residents.
-
Natural trees, wreaths, and garland are NOT permitted. Artificial trees are permitted. Artificial trees must be UL approved if pre-lit, and should not block egress from the room/suite. Artificial trees or decorations may not touch/rest against the ceiling in anyway.
-
UL approved lights may be used in moderation on your tree and inside your windows. Do not place lights on doors, ceilings or near any flammable objects. All lights must remain at least three inches below the ceiling. Do not hang them from sprinkler heads.
-
No more than 1/3 of a wall in a room should be covered. Wall hangings or other coverings should not obstruct passageways or cover ceilings.
-
No items maybe hung out of the window of your Residence Hall or Townhouse, or placed on the exterior of your room or townhouse doors. (i.e. room/suite doors may not be wrapped like a present)
-
Candles or any open flames are not allowed in the residence halls or townhouses at any time of year.
-
Remember, extension cords are prohibited. You may use power strips with circuit breakers.
-
Be sure that room and suite exits are not blocked.
-
Finally, if you use spray snow on your windows you must remove it prior to leaving for semester break.
-
The University reserves the right to request that decorations and/or lights be removed based upon appropriateness for the entire University Community. These policies can be found on page 62 in the Bryant Student Handbook.
All holiday decorations must be removed from the Residence Halls by
Winter Break.

Careful attention to these guidelines will help ensure a safe holiday period on campus. If any decoration of your room, suite, or building results in damage to the facility or grounds, you will be held responsible for the damage. Failure to abide by these guidelines will result in citations being issued and/or judicial action. If you have any questions please direct them to the Office of Residence Life.
Thank you for helping to make this a safe holiday season
