Townhouse Holiday Decoration Policies

  • Students residing in N, O and P townhouse units can place outdoor lights and inflatable characters requiring electricity in front of their townhouse because there are two GFI outlets at their front porch.  UL approved outside lights can be placed on the small trees and bushes in front of each  unit.  Lights cannot be placed anywhere on the townhouse unit or the front porch.  Inflatable characters requiring electricity can be placed in the landscaped area directly in front of their unit.  All lights and inflatables must be plugged into the outside outlets only and have to use a UL approved “Heavy Duty” extension cord designed for exterior use.  Extension cords cannot be run through windows and/or doors nor be plugged into interior outlets.

  • Students residing in blocks H through M can place outdoor lights and inflatable characters requiring electricity on their back porch/patio and their backyard because there are two GFI outlets on the back porch/patio of each unit.  UL approved outside lights must be used and cannot be placed or secured to any part of the townhouse unit.  Inflatable characters requiring electricity can be on the patio/porch or in the unit’s immediate backyard.  All lights and inflatables must be plugged into the outside outlets only and have to use a UL approved “Heavy Duty” extension cord designed for exterior use.  Extension cords cannot be run through windows and/or doors nor be plugged into interior outlets.

  • Students residing in blocks K, L, O and in M2 may hang UL approved outside lights on the metal rails that surround their back porch and steps.

  • Only UL approved “Heavy Duty” exterior extension cords will be allowed. “One-time” use extension cords are prohibited.

  • No more than 4 sets of lights can be linked together in a “row” or “circuit”. Extension cords may not be plugged into other extension cords.

  • Residents residing in blocks A through G cannot place outdoor lights and inflatable characters on or around their townhouse unit because there are no outside electrical outlets.

  • Holiday decorations not requiring electricity can be displayed in the front or back of the townhouse unit.  The decorations cannot be on or attached to any part of the townhouse unit.

  • Residents are responsible for all decorations that are displayed around their townhouse unit.  The University is not responsible for the loss of decorations due to theft and/or vandalism.

  • If any decoration of your room, townhouse unit, or block results in damage to the facility or grounds, you will be held responsible for the damage.

  • All Holiday decorations will be evaluated by the University Fire Marshall, Electricians, and/or Residence Life staff to ensure compliance with these regulations and fire safety guidelines. Should any decorations be deemed unsafe, the University reserves the right to have any decorations removed to ensure the safety of the community.

All exterior decorations must be completely removed from the area around the townhouses by December 30th.

The University reserves the right to request that decorations and/or lights be removed based upon appropriateness for the entire University Community.
