Jessica Fleet '17
When Jessica Fleet started her college search, she looked at schools that could help her get ahead. “I loved the idea of pairing my Politics and Law concentration with a business minor,” Fleet says. “But the primary reason I chose Bryant is because of its small, tight-knit community. I knew I would be able to stand out academically and make a difference on campus.”
She quickly found her place in that community. A field hockey player, she remembers when she first saw her name in the starting lineup. “I ran out of the locker room, called my mom, and told her I had to quit because I couldn’t and shouldn’t start,” she says. She persevered, however, and thrived, “I got my very first goal in that game and helped my team win its season opener.”
That perseverance helped her become an academic standout as well. A Bryant Scholar and recipient of the Political Science Commencement Award, Jessica was a member of the Political Science Honors Society and of Bryant’s Honors Program. Her senior thesis explored a Good Samaritan policy for the University.
She’s also committed to giving back, taking on roles like Advocacy Chair for Colleges against Cancer. “Cancer will affect everyone at some point, and I have personally seen some miracles happen. ... I can support those whose lives can be changed by raising awareness and money to fund their fight.”
An aspiring criminal defense attorney, Fleet is pursuing a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University. She then plans to go on to law school in fall 2018.
“Being a Politics and Law major at Bryant allowed me the opportunity to work with dedicated professors who have not only prepared me for life after graduation, but given me unique personalized opportunities” Fleet says.
