DECA chapter heads to Orlando for international competition

DECA chapter wears medalsBryant University's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter recently achieved a new pinnacle of success: Every member who competed in the New England Regional DECA competition, held at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, earned a medal.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world.

First-place medalists were chapter President Dan DeSimone ’16, Evan Ott ’17, Sara Schlecht ’17, Jessica Tambascio ’17, Michael Muldoon ’17 and Raveena Goyal ’18; second-place medalists were Ryan McGurn ’15, Ashley Cardona ’16 and Briana Geoghegan ’17; and third-place winners were Luis Dos Santos ’15, Danica Wilson ’16, Katherine Ball ’17 and Parker Zanghi-Clark ’17.

These 13 participants competed against 160 other students from New England colleges and universities at the February 6 regional competition; students were judged on their case analyses, role playing and exams. In addition to competing individually or in teams in different business categories, Bryant students attended several leadership training seminars, says DeSimone.

“It is so much fun to watch them develop into competent professional people," says Associate Professor of Marketing Jane McKay-Nesbitt, who was persuaded by her students to advise the Bryant chapter of approximately 30 students.

Stay tuned: Several Bryant DECA members are headed to Orlando, Florida, to compete at DECA’s Collegiate International Career and Development Conference, which begins April 18.
