Mariah Lang ’15: A leap of faith, a lifetime of success
Minors: Legal Studies, Political Science
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Path: Management Trainee Program, Cintas Corporation
Mariah Lang never visited Bryant before arriving on campus, but she had already bonded with her class through forums such as Facebook groups and Bryant-sponsored live chats. Everyone she met was friendly and made her feel at home, and she quickly became acclimated to campus life through 4MILE, an orientation program for intercultural and multicultural students.
Originally, Lang wanted to study accounting and become a lawyer, but an internship changed her career path. After a summer accounting internship for Cintas Corporation in Sacramento, CA, her general manager invited her back during winter break. “He sensed that I was a manager, not an accountant, and he changed my internship to focus on the management of our branch,” she says. “I found out he was 100 percent correct and excelled at the numerous projects I was given.”
At Bryant, Lang thrived by getting involved and stepping into leadership positions. She was named Student Ambassador of the Year, among her many accomplishments. “Taking part in events with prospective students reminds me of how happy I am with my college choice,” she says. “I want to help other students find that perfect fit as well.”
Lang was accepted to four colleges but remembers being wildly excited when she received her acceptance letter from Bryant, along with a scholarship award. The scholarship, she says, was the first indication that the school saw something in her that she had yet to achieve.
“I realized this scholarship signified Bryant investing in my future,” she says. “I believe this faith and support in me from Day One has really shaped me as the student and leader that I am today.”
