Historic $75 million campaign will create new model for educating innovative leaders

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant’s Board of Trustees has approved a $75-million capital campaign, Expanding the World of Opportunity: The Campaign for Bryant’s Bold Future, the largest fundraising effort in the University’s history. Bryant has already raised more than $40.5 million toward the campaign goal, exceeding the total amount raised in Bryant’s previous capital campaign which concluded in 2004. The historic new campaign’s initiatives include:

  • scholarship dollars to attract the best students from all segments of society, and ultimately produce the finest graduates and leaders;
  • new facilities including a 50,000-square-foot Academic Innovation Center, where innovative learning will be fostered in a creative and innovative environment. The school plans to break ground on the landmark center in spring 2015, with the facility to open in fall 2016;
  • new academic leaders and faculty who are world-class thought leaders in their respective fields, represent excellence in teaching, and inspire innovative learning.

"The distinctive Bryant experience has significant value and is a strategic game changer in higher education," said University President Ronald K. Machtley at a gala event for Bryant’s leadership donors on Sept. 12.

“The world is changing fast, and increasing and ever-new technology is transforming commerce. To define Bryant’s future and set the pace for others to follow,” Machtley said, “we will be bold in creating the model for educating innovative leaders with character who will make a difference around the world.”

Nationally recognized for integrating business, liberal arts

For more than 150 years, Bryant has been at the forefront of education that anticipates the future in a changing world, preparing students so that they are ready to achieve success in their lives and chosen professions. Today, the University delivers a nationally recognized immersive curriculum that integrates business and the liberal arts, and the University’s innovative academic programs are consistently ranked among the best in the country. Bryant is a school that attracts its "right fit" students from the start of their college search. Of Bryant’s incoming first-year class this September, 49 percent applied early decision or early action.

College Factual ranks the University’s business program among the top 10 in the country, and U.S. News & World Report ranks Bryant No. 11 in its category, Regional Universities North, and among a select group of “up-and-coming” schools. In recent years Bryant has established itself as a leader in international education. Bloomberg Businessweek ranks Bryant’s International Business program as the 16 th in the United States.

The full scope of Bryant’s international programs includes the unique Sophomore International Experience for undergraduates and a Global Immersion Experience for graduate students in the Graduate School of Business, an undergraduate concentration in Global Supply Chain management, and MBA concentrations in Global Finance, Global Supply Chain Management, and International Business. Nearly 50 percent of Bryant students study abroad.

“Bryant’s distinctive 24/7 learning environment, combining innovative academic and student life programs in an award-winning setting, builds the skills and increases the confidence of our students,” Machtley said, “so that they graduate ready to make immediate contributions as leaders working in a global context. Our graduates are succeeding in every respect.”

Bryant graduates are highly sought after in their professions, with 98 percent employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation. Bryant’s Class of 2013 has an average starting salary of $53,000.

Expanding the World of Opportunity: The Campaign for Bryant’s Bold Future outlines Bryant's determination to do what it does even better and to take on an ever more active role in the organizations and economies of the world.

During the last decade Bryant has introduced a number of innovations and significant enhancements that have transformed the institution. Bryant established its College of Business and College of Arts and Sciences and transitioned from college to university in 2004, completed full transition to NCAA Division I athletics in 2013, and established a School of Health Sciences and its first clinical program – the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies this January.

The University has added 267,000 square feet in facilities and invested more than $244 million in new facilities and renovations during the tenure of President Ronald K. Machtley. This year marks the 19 th year for President Machtley and his wife, Kati C. Machtley, who serves as director of the Bryant University Women’s Summit, one of the most highly sought-after conferences in New England.
