Kathryn Ostermeier

Dr. Kathryn Ostermeier is an Assistant Professor of Management. She started at Bryant University in August 2018 after receiving her Ph.D. in Management (Organizational Behavior) in May 2018 from the University of North Texas under the supervision of Dr. Danielle Cooper. Before starting her doctoral studies, Ostermeier received her B.B.A in Business Honors from the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University and her MBA from the University of Texas at Tyler. While completing her MBA, she worked as a third-party recruiter (headhunter) in the finance and accounting industry.

As an organizational behavior scholar, she is interested in how an individual’s self-view and the expression of this self-view affects individual, team, and organizational outcomes. To this end, Ostermeier's research has focused on identity, authenticity, and belonging, as well as more recently on the COVID-19 pandemic. She enjoys conducting quantitative, survey-based research and is especially interested in survey design and measure development. Her research been presented at national conferences and has appeared in several premier academic journals, including the Academy of Management Annals, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Journal of Applied Psychology. Her paper at the Academy of Management Annals was nominated for the 2020 "Best Paper" award. In 2021, Ostermeier received the College of Business Faculty Excellence Award for Research and Publication (2020-2021).

At the undergraduate level, Ostermeier teaches MGT 203 (Honors Management for Organizational Leadership), MGT 480 (Leadership Seminar), and MGT 463 (Power and Influence). Ostermeier also frequently supervises honors theses and internships. At the graduate level, Ostermeier also teaches in the full-time MBA program in the MBA Practicum. She serves on both the IDEA Leadership Team and on the Honors Council. Professionally, Ostermeier reviews for numerous journals and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science. Ostermeier also conducts training and development workshops on authenticity and leadership.

Ostermeier lives in Barrington, RI with her husband, Matt (who is an architect), and their two boys, Jack (6) and Jude (4).
